LONDON, Feb. 9 (UPI) -- A diner at the London's Zafferano restaurant recently returned a bottle of wine worth more than $35,000, calling it a "fake."
Zafferano's General Manager Enzo Cassini said that when the diner did not find a standard mark of provenance on the bottle of Petrus 1961, he became upset and returned the bottle unopened, The Daily Mail reported Saturday.
"Yes, the customer was cross. He had a problem because when he saw that there was no mark on the cork he didn't want to drink it any more," Cassini said. "He said: 'this could be a fake.'"
The restaurant contacted a local wine bar chain and had an expert examine the bottle in question. The results were inconclusive.
The Daily Mail said the customer ordered a bottle of Mouton Rothschild 1945, instead of the Petrus 1961. The replacement order cost him nearly $39,000.
