WASHINGTON, Feb. 1 (UPI) -- A poll released Friday suggests excitement in the United States is evenly split between Super Bowl Sunday and the Super Tuesday presidential primaries.

The Washington Post-ABC News telephone poll of 1,019 adults, conducted Jan. 26-29, found 40 percent of respondents are focusing their excitement on the big football game between the New England Patriots and the New York Giants, while nearly the same amount, 37 percent, are hyped for the primaries, ABC News reported.

The survey found the majority of Democrats are more excited about the primaries, while Republicans were nearly split evenly between primary and Super Bowl excitement, The Washington Post said.

The Super Bowl was found to be more popular among men, by 48 percent compared to 34 percent, and women were more interested in the presidential race, with 40 percent choosing politics versus 32 percent picking football.

Eight in 10 respondents predict a Patriots victory Sunday, but 53 percent of those polled said they'd prefer a Giants victory. The poll had a 3 percent margin of error.
