The woman called police in Chula Vista after opening the bag in her apartment Wednesday night, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported.

When the grenades were examined by a bomb technician, they turned out to be both real and harmless, police Lt. Scott Arsenault said. The inside of the grenades had been removed, leaving shells with no explosives.

The remaining contents of the bag included military clothes and a belt.
