CLOVIS, N.M., Jan. 25 (UPI) -- Two optimistic New Mexico dog owners say they have designed a wheelchair for their paralyzed yet frisky Chihuahua, Tuddy.
Ramon and Crusita Sena fashioned the rolling chair for the dog out of an aluminum "For Sale" sign, metal rods, a padded harness and two plastic wheels, Clovis News Journal reported Thursday.
The couple told reporters the 4-year-old canine never let the accident, which paralyzed his hind legs, slow him down. They said Tuddy isn't even aware of his disability.
Tuddy ruptured a disc in his spine two years ago when he underestimated the distance of a jump into the family car, the family told reporters.
The family said they refused to put the dog down, despite his handicap.
"We thought he was too young. If he had been older and in pain that would have been an option. But we just take the time," Crusita Sena said.
The Senas said Tuddy "took off" the moment the moment he got into his new chair and now runs to meet visitors across their yard.
