NEW YORK, Jan. 10 (UPI) -- New Yorkers attended the opening of the city's new public pay-potty in Manhattan Thursday.
The potty is one of an eventual 20 toilets to be installed to satisfy a development contract with Spanish corporation Cemusa to build 3,000 bus stop shelters and 330 news kiosks around the city, the New York Post reported Thursday.
Approximately 39 newsstands and 1,000 bus shelters have been built so far as part of the contract, which is intended to raise money for the city through print ads posted on and in the structures, the newspaper said.
The toilet, which costs 25 cents for each 15-minute visit, reportedly cleans itself following each customer.
New Yorkers have tried using similar facilities in the past but had little success keeping them in order.
