LONDON, Jan. 6 (UPI) -- Britain Sunday marked the birthday of the remarkable Minnie Smith, who was born in London 110 years ago.
Not only did Smith receive the usual flood of birthday cards, but also another letter from the queen congratulating her on another year.
"Everyone who has ever met her loves her," her 80-year-old niece, Sylvia Bond, told The Independent.
Smith, who was born in 1898, remembers well the sinking of the Titanic, and swears boiled onions and a regular sip of whiskey have contributed to her longevity. Age has taken its toll, however. Minnie is virtually blind and deaf and has difficulty communicating.
The Independent noted she still keeps a picture of her soldier boyfriend from World War I by her bedside.
