MINNEAPOLIS , Dec. 28 (UPI) -- Minneapolis has been named "America's Most Literate City," ousting Seattle from its two-year run at the top of the best-read city list.

Seattle fell to second place on Central Connecticut State University's list, which ranks the 69 largest U.S. cities by analyzing their libraries, bookstores, educational levels, newspaper readership, locally published magazines and Internet resources, the Seattle Times reported Friday.

The university said Seattle remains in the lead when it comes to the number of bookstores per 10,000 residents and percentage of adults with high school diplomas and bachelor's degrees, but slipped this year in the category of Internet resources, which covers library Internet connections, Internet book orders and online readership of local newspapers.

Ranked third on the list was St. Paul, Minn., with Denver and Washington rounding out the top five, USA Today reported.
