BRISTOL, England, Dec. 16 (UPI) -- A British toddler conceived with in vitro fertilization celebrated his first birthday without cake due to its excited parents -- and because they're gorillas.

Children played zookeeper and brought gifts and cake to celebrate the one-year birthday of a Western lowland gorilla named Komale at the Bristol Zoo, the Sunday Telegraph said.

Komale was born at with the aid of the fertility drug Clomifene used to boost the population of the endangered species of Western lowland gorillas.

The population of the Western lowland gorilla fell 90 percent in 60 years due to deforestation and poaching.

Zoo officials were forced to hide the cake from Komale's parents, Jock and Salome, because they became too excited, the Telegraph said.
