COBURG, Germany, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- Former Formula One driver Michael Schumacher was allowed by a German cabbie to take over driving on a speed-limit-free autobahn motorway.
Cab driver Tuncer Yilmaz said Schumacher -- whose wife, two children and new puppy were also in the minivan-style cab at the time -- asked if he could take over driving so the family could make it to the airport in time to catch their plane, The Daily Telegraph reported Wednesday.
"I found myself in the passenger seat, which was strange enough, but to have 'Schumi' behind the wheel of my cab was incredible," Yilmaz told German newspaper the Muenchner Abendzeitung.
"He drove at full throttle around the corners and overtook in some unbelievable places," the cabbie said.
Schumacher, who lives in Switzerland, was visiting Bavaria to pick up the family's new Australian Shepherd puppy, which they named Ed.
The seven-time Formula One world champion left Yilmaz with a $150 tip.
