Gun thieves use doggie door

JACKSONVILLE BEACH, Fla., Dec. 6 (UPI) -- Police say thieves who took nine guns from a Jacksonville Beach, Fla., home used a large doggie door to enter the residence.

The owner of the guns, who asked to remain anonymous, said the dog door is meant to allow his two canines -- a 225-pound Great Dane and a Mastiff -- to enter and exit the house as they please, WJXT-TV, Jacksonville, Fla., reported Thursday.

However, the victim said he believes one of the thieves distracted his dogs and kept them in the yard while another thief slipped into the dog door to take the guns and nearly 1,000 rounds of ammunition.

The homeowner said he plans to keep his guns in a safe from now on, but the dog door will remain untouched.

"It's a Great Dane and a Mastiff. I mean, who is really going to go in a doggie door that a 225-pound dog can get through?" the victim said.

Police are investigating the theft.
