Historic marker contains typos

SANTA FE, N.M., Nov. 28 (UPI) -- Two typos have been discovered on a New Mexico historic marker celebrating four nuns who started New Mexico's first school for women.

One side of the marker, which honors the four Sisters of Loretto who founded the school, misspells "known" as "know," and the other side misspells "Loretto" as "Lorreto," The Albuquerque Journal reported Wednesday.

The marker is the first to be placed under the New Mexico Historic Women Marker Initiative, which aims to place 54 markers celebrating the accomplishments of women in New Mexico.

Patricia French, head of the women's marker initiative, said the typos occurred because production of the sign was given a short deadline to ensure representatives of the sisters could attend the unveiling.

French said the sign will be replaced before Saturday's unveiling ceremony.
