LONDON, Nov. 27 (UPI) -- The woman who provided voice-over instructions for the London Underground was fired after allegedly criticizing the underground trains.

Emma Clarke, whose recorded voice warned riders to "mind the gap," landed herself in hot water after she was quoted saying she doesn't ride the London Underground because it is "dreadful," the BBC reported Tuesday.

Clarke said she was "wildly misquoted."

"What I actually said was that traveling in a Tube train would be dreadful for me, listening to my own voice and seeing the haunted faces of commuters being subjected to me telling them to 'mind the gap,'" she said in the BBC report. "I would find it quite an uncomfortable experience in the same way that when I call a company when I'm their on hold voice and it's me saying -- please press 2 for accounts -- it's a creepy experience to be honest."

"It's because she has criticized the Underground system," a London Underground spokesman told the BBC. "Emma is a bit silly to go round slagging off her client's services."
