LOS ANGELES, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- A young couple suspected of five bank robberies in the Los Angeles area have been nicknamed the "Newlywed Bandits" although they are not married.
Laura Eimiller, a spokeswoman for the FBI's Los Angeles office, told The Los Angeles Times that an agent christened the couple after viewing surveillance tapes.
"He saw a young couple perhaps in love, and named them the Newlywed Bandits," Eimiller said. "We have no shortage of bank robbers in the LA area so he names quite a few."
Paul Harlen Meyercamp Jr., 26, and Rayceana Racheal Rocha, 22, are believed to have carried out five robberies in October and early November. Investigators say that in all cases, one or two people approached a teller with a note demanding money and claiming to be armed.
Meyercamp is on parole and Rocha is a student at Rio Honda Community College in Whittier, investigators said.
