Background check KO's police applicant

NEWPORT NEWS, Va., Nov. 16 (UPI) -- A man applying to be a Newport News, Va., police officer was arrested when the criminal background check turned up a crime.

Oliver Shea Wright, 20, was charged with the misdemeanor offense of contributing to the delinquency of a minor, accused of having a sexual relationship with a 15-year-old girl during the summer, the Virginian-Pilot in Norfolk, Va., reported Friday.

Police said Wright turned himself in to authorities and was released on his own recognizance.
