BOURNEMOUTH, England, Nov. 14 (UPI) -- A house cat in southern England has a nightly routine of disappearing and awaiting a ride home at the same place 2 miles away every morning.

Liz Bullard told The Daily Telegraph the Norwegian Forest cat, called Sgt. Podge, started the curious routine five months ago in Bournemouth.

The cat vanished and an elderly woman called to say she had spotted the cat. Bullard drove 2 miles and picked up the cat but he vanished again within days. Bullard called the elderly woman back, who said Sgt. Podge was indeed back in the same place.

It's now become a daily pick-up ritual for Bullard, weekends included, she said.

"He is always waiting in the same place at the same time," she told the newspaper. "If it's raining, I clap my hands and he appears from under a hedge. He loves his ride home."

Once home, the cat eats breakfast and spends most of the day asleep by a warm radiator, before setting out again, Bullard said.

"He is just a bit off the planet," she said.
