Tony Blair lampooned by old school

EDINBURGH, Scotland, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- A teacher at Fettes College in Scotland has created a satirical play about the school's best-known alumnus, former British Prime Minister Tony Blair.

In the "Which Blair Project," Blair, as Fettes' head boy, invades a neighboring school after falsely claiming it is hiding weapons of mass destruction, The Scotsman reports. President George W. Bush, Prime Minister Gordon Brown and other leaders also show up as school boys.

Blair was a student at Fettes -- sometimes known as "the Eton of the north" -- from 1966 to 1971. One former master, Bob Roberts, remembered Blair as someone who "had a great gift for being able to push the rules to the limit without actually crossing the line."

David McDowell, the history and politics teacher who wrote the play, describes it modestly as a "succession of cheap gags." It was performed by students at Kimmerghame House, Blair's home when he was a student.

McDowell said he thought Blair might enjoy the play and that hopes he will return to Fettes to talk to students about politics. The school last year dedicated a more traditional tribute, a bust of Blair.
