DALLAS, Nov. 11 (UPI) -- Reports of a rhino escape at the Dallas Zoo were proven false, but not before a police helicopter and tactical team were called to the scene.
The rhino rumor was started Saturday evening when a car lost control on Marsalis Avenue, jumped a median and flew into the chain link fence surrounding the zoo, The Dallas Morning News reported.
When police arrived, they were told a rhino was ambling down the road. They called in reinforcements but a headcount at the zoo revealed none of the creatures were missing, the newspaper said.
Some of the overreaction may have been caused by the 2004 escape of Jabari, a 350-pound gorilla from the Dallas Zoo that was later shot by police.
