REDKEY, Ind., Nov. 9 (UPI) -- Pigs might have even been revolted if they came upon a hog manure truck that spilled thousands of gallons of waste along an Indiana highway.
The rig, hauling about 6,000 gallons of hog waste, spilled about 2,500 gallons when the tires left the road, causing the tanker to become unhooked and flip onto its side, The Star Press of Muncie, Ind., reported.
"Mostly, the environmental impact is to the soil at the site of the incident. About 100 gallons might have spilled into a ditch," said Steve Polston, an Indiana Department of Environmental Management manager.
Manure was being removed from a Redkey, Ind., hog operation by Wagler Transportation of Nashville so it could be spread onto fields as fertilizer.
The Redkey, Ind., fire department built a dike to contain the smelly spill, which Wagler pumped into another tanker also hauling manure in the area, the newspaper said.
