TOKYO, Nov. 9 (UPI) -- A Japanese lingerie-maker has taken a novel approach to save forests being whittled away for chopsticks, unveiling the chopstick bra this week.

Triumph International Japan, maker of "My Chopsticks Bra," said it hopes the product will promote environmental awareness, The Independent reported Friday. The bra's cups can hold a pair of collapsible chopsticks pulled out before a meal.

The Triumph bra is not yet for sale and may struggle to find buyers, the British newspaper said.

Each "cup" is made up as a bowl: one for rice and the other for miso soup. The reusable chopstick rests in the "cleavage."

"It's a small step, but because many Japanese chopsticks are disposable, big chunks of forests are being cut down," a company spokesman said.

Japan uses about 25 billion sets of wood and bamboo disposable chopsticks, a year -- more than 200 for every person in the country, the Independent said. The splints are distributed in noodle shops, sushi bars and convenience stores.
