Elk trapped in Swedish swimming pool

OSKARSTROM, Sweden, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- A wayward elk was found trapped Thursday in a private swimming pool in Sweden.

Police in Oskarstrom, in western Sweden, had the pool drained, The Local reported. They then built a makeshift staircase for the elk.

"We built stairs out of wooden pallets to help the elk make its own way up," said Claes Lundstrom, who was in charge of the project.

When the elk remained in the pool, police decided to give the animal some peace and quiet, hoping it would be more adventurous on its own. Police spokesman Stefan Jarlhage said in a worst-case scenario the elk might have to be put down.
