LONDON, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Black is becoming the new silver for car color, a British survey revealed.

Research of 4,000 drivers in Britain revealed that 30 percent of those surveyed said they would choose black as their preferred color if they bought a car tomorrow, insurance provider yesinsurance.co.uk said in a news release.

Silver came in second place among respondents, with 27 percent saying they'd chose that color.

"The research measured the preferences of motorists who may not be in a position to buy a car today, but who may be in the market for one within the next few years," Paul Purdy of yesinsurance.co.uk said in the release. "The way things are moving, we would predict that black may overtake silver as the most popular color for new cars within the next three years."

The Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders figures for 2006 new car sales showed black moved from third to second place in the order of preference. Meanwhile, silver dipped in popularity, being chosen by 29 percent of drivers, compared with 31 percent in 2005.
