Thieves target cashless bank

STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Oct. 22 (UPI) -- Two men failed to read an obvious sign stating that there was no cash on the premises when they attempted to rob the Tjustbygdens Sparbank in Sweden.

The men, armed with a handgun and a crowbar, refused to acknowledge that it was a "cashless bank" and conducted a thorough search behind the counter before apparently becoming frustrated and leaving, The Local reported Monday.

"You would think that robbers would do some research before going to work," bank manager Mats Hasselqvist told newspaper Vastervikstidning.

Then, the men attempted to go to the local supermarket but were thwarted by a quick-thinking shop assistant who locked the doors.

"She screamed at some customers who were on their way in to hurry up and then she locked the door. She also managed to take the registration number on their car before they drove off," staff member Einar Hjalmarsson told Dagens Nyheter.
