Cross-country drive on 2 gallons of gas

GREENVILLE, Maine, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- A Maine resident's guardian angel is a black Lab, whom the man credits with saving his life as a fire destroyed his home.
Roland Cote, 56, of Greenville, said when Thumper work him from "a sound sleep," he saw flames and had scant time to run downstairs, dial 911 and give the emergency operator the necessary information before the house became engulfed, the Bangor (Maine) Daily News reported.
The irony? The fire apparently was caused by a kerosene lantern that the family cat apparently tipped. The lantern melted the rubber gas line to the refrigerator and the fire spread, he said.
