LONDON, Oct. 6 (UPI) -- The British foreign exchange firm Travelex has unveiled a new form of currency designed for use in outer space: the quid.

Short for quasi universal intergalactic denomination, the quid is the result of cooperation between the National Space Center and the University Of Leicester to create a cosmic form of currency, Sky News said Friday.

Working together, the two professional sites were able to create an unusual set of circular discs that are specifically suited for space travel.

Sky News said that the same substance used to give frying pans a Teflon coating helps make up the discs, that also feature pictures of the solar system's eight planets.

The foreign exchange firm said that the exchange rate is one quid for nearly $12.80 with the availability of the new currency based entirely on demand.
