CARDIFF, Wales, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- A local council in Wales said that its pole-dancing classes are a wholesome family activity.

A spokeswoman for the Cardiff Council said that pole dancing is offered in its “Try” series, classes in various types of music and dancing.

"Pole dancing is a unique dance form,” she told Sky News. “It combines strength, coordination, cardiovascular, elegance, posture and flexibility in a dynamic and fun way. It is never boring and doesn't feel like a fitness class."

The council is offering two classes, one for women and teens under 16 and the other for adults of both sexes. The spokeswoman said that 25 of the 30 available spots in the classes have been taken but no one under the age of 16 signed up.

Kerrie Grove, a 24-year-old pole dancer, told Sky News that she has reservations about teaching the art to children because some men may not think of it as a fitness activity.
