Teachers to warn pupils about 'Truth' bias

LONDON, Oct. 3 (UPI) -- Schools in Britain can show "An Inconvenient Truth" but only after warning students that the film promotes partisan political views.

A judge indicated to school officials that they would need to issue the warning before airing the Oscar-winning documentary about global warning, the Daily Mail reported. The film features former U.S. Vice President Al Gore.

The ruling, expected to be announced next week, resulted from a court action brought by a father who accused the government of "brainwashing" students by showing the film in the classroom.

Stewart Dimmock sought to have the documentary banned, claiming it was unfit for schools because it was politically biased and contained scientific inaccuracies and "sentimental mush," the Daily Mail reported

The judge said he would rule that Gore's film does promote "partisan political views," meaning teachers will have to warn students that there are other opinions on global warning.

"The result is I will be declaring that, with the guidance as now amended, it will not be unlawful for the film to be shown," the judge said in the newspaper report.
