CARDIFF, Wales, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- A 22-year-old student at Wales' Aberystwyth University has set a Guinness World Record for traveling the farthest on a unicycle in a single day.

By cycling 282 miles on the university's running track on his one-wheeled transport, Sam Wakeling managed to easily surpass the previous record of 235.3 miles and become the world's newest record holder, Sky News said Sunday.

After completing his record-setting journey on his customized 36-inch-wheel unicycle, the computer science undergrad said he was pleased but exhausted.

"I was surprised how well it went, I just kept on working and I'm really quite stiff now and don't feel very healthy," Wakeling said.

Yet Wakeling now has higher goals, specifically a lengthy unicycle road race modeled after the Tour de France.

"Long distance unicycling is still such a young sport that the boundaries haven't really been pushed far yet, so that's what I hope to do a bit more of," he told Sky News.
