GLASGOW, Scotland, Sept. 30 (UPI) -- Research into the lineage of the animated Walt Disney character Scrooge McDuck has found the feathered tycoon was from Glasgow, Scotland.

A spokeswoman for the Glasgow City Council said the council's research found that the cartoon character known for its duck bill and countless dollar bills can be included on the city's list of successful citizens, The Scotsman reported Sunday.

"Over the years, Glaswegians have made their mark on the political, scientific, educational, religious, commercial and cultural map at home and abroad," the spokeswoman said. "We have carried out some research and were delighted to discover that Scrooge McDuck hails from Glasgow."

The council gathered its information from a rare U.S. comic called "The Life and Times of Scrooge McDuck," the Scotsman said.

That virtually-unknown comic details how McDuck grew up on the streets of Glasgow, earning what money he could as a simple shoeshine boy -- or should that be shoeshine duck?
