Rich dessert yields rich reward

GALLE, Sri Lanka, Sept. 25 (UPI) -- Diners at The Fortress Sri Lanka don't wolf down the restaurant's special-order dessert, which, at $14,500, is the most expensive final course in the world.

The dessert’s inspiration comes from the Galle resort’s logo of the "stilt fisherman," a centuries-old fishing method that can be seen along the country’s coastline, the Sri Lanka's Daily News reported.

Gold leaf Italian kasata, Irish cream, a mango and pomegranate compote, and sabayon combine to form the decadent treat. But the finishing touch is the 80-carat aquamarine stone nestled on the handmade chocolate stilt fisherman.

According Sri Lankan legend, the aquamarine has the power to calm, sooth and heal, and has been used by sailors and fishermen for protection and luck. The gem also is said to endow its owner with foresight, courage and happiness.
