Mustache trips up robber's disguise

NEW YORK, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- It's the little things that can trip up a bank robber -- just ask a cross-dressing New York robber who forgot about his mustache.

The skirt, wig, opened-toe sandals and makeup didn't help Aston Barth elude capture after he passed a note to a Citibank teller and left the branch with a few thousand dollars of loot, the New York Post reported.

"He was accessorized," said Suffolk Detective Sgt. Robert Doyle. "He really threw himself into the part."

Police got a tip about Barth's real name and gender and he was spotted Tuesday by two uniformed officers, who handcuffed him and charged him with robbery, the Post said.

Doyle said Barth, who has a conviction for armed robbery, dressed up in his mother's clothing and makeup simply "to disguise his identity."
