SAKAI , Japan, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- A year-old boy is safe after being dragged in his carriage about 460 feet when the pram became stuck in a commuter train in Japan.

The boy in the buggy was rescued by passersby at a crossing in Sakai after a passenger hit the emergency stop button once the buggy was noticed, the Kyodo news agency reported Thursday. A 38-year-old woman who was pushing the buggy collapsed and was injured slightly, police said.

Neither the driver nor the conductor noticed the handle of the baby buggy sticking out of a car door when the Nankai Electric Railway Co. train pulled away from the station. The train doors closed as the woman was wheeling the carriage out of the second car of the six-car train, police said.

Officials said the train was equipped with door sensors but they can't detect an object less than 1.2 inches wide.
