School has beef with vegan teacher

FOX RIVER GROVE, Ill., Sept. 18 (UPI) -- An Illinois teacher has been suspended for preaching the virtues of his vegan lifestyle to his middle school students.

Dave Warwak was banned from the Fox River Grove Middle School campus earlier this month after refusing to refrain from discussing his views about veganism, animal cruelty and so-called factory farming practices.

The Chicago Tribune said Warwak remains on the district payroll, but the school board in Fox River Grove will consider termination sometime in the future.

Warwak is sticking to his guns for now. The newspaper said Tuesday the 44-year-old teacher wants to keep his job, but is now insisting the school cafeteria drop meat and milk from the menu before he agrees to come back to work.
