SAN DIEGO, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Military strategy, a Los Angeles socialite and a celluloid family provided fertile ground for the top TV buzzwords, a survey reported.

"Surge," referring to the U.S. military buildup in Iraq; "That's hot!," the trademarked expression Paris Hilton utters; and "D'oh!," Homer Simpson's ever-ready response on "The Simpsons" television show and "The Simpsons Movie," were the top three TV buzzwords, determined by the Global Language Monitor. The San Diego organization released its 2007 edition of the television catch-phrase impacting English.

"This year’s annual list captures the spirit of the times, for better or for worse," said Paul J.J. Payack, president and chief word analyst of Global Language Monitor.

"Surge," he said, is a strong contender for overall word of the year honors.

Television buzzwords are nominated by GLM’s Language Police -- volunteer language observers scattered across the globe -- then analyzed and ranked.
