NEW YORK, Sept. 11 (UPI) -- U.S. women expect there will be a female president before a member of a racial minority reaches the Oval Office, a new online poll shows.

The Woman's Day magazine survey released Tuesday reveals 76 percent of the women polled believe it is somewhat or very likely that a member of their own gender could win the 2008 presidential election rather than any minority candidate. That's slightly more than the 72 percent who think a minority candidate such as an African American, Asian or Latino could win.

However, 77 percent said they think it's somewhat or very likely a Jewish candidate could win. Only 66 percent said they feel that way about a non-religious candidate; 64 percent for an evangelical candidate and only 14 percent for a Muslim candidate. About one-quarter indicated they believe a gay candidate could win the presidency.

Woman's Day surveyed 1,500 American women on AOL.com in April.

The online poll also found that 68 percent of those surveyed see a candidate's platform on domestic issues is more important than the person's view on foreign policy and the war in Iraq.
