Synagogue selling lifetime seats for $1.8M

MIAMI BEACH, Fla., Sept. 9 (UPI) -- Officials at a synagogue in Miami Beach, Fla., have placed two lifetime seats to their High Holy Day services on eBay for the one-time price of $1.8 million.

The two front-row seats at Miami Beach's Temple Emanu-El would place their purchasers directly in front of the presiding rabbi for the religious services, but definitely come at a price, The Miami Herald reported Thursday.

Temple president Jerry Jacobs said the seats would be transferable between familial generations and would ensure an eternal bond with the religious facility.

"I don't want to use the word 'gimmick,'" Jacobs said of the eBay sale. "But it's a way for us to get the community involved in what we're doing. Here you can have the two best seats in the house, and they'll be in your family forever."

The synagogue typically sells two seats to events like Yom Kippur or Rosh Hashana for $1,800, the Herald said.

Yet as of Sunday afternoon, the eBay auction for the High Holy Day tickets had yet to receive a single bid.
