Cities look to sack saggy pants

ATLANTA, Sept. 5 (UPI) -- Dress codes used to be concerned about short skirts and low necklines; now several U.S. cities are considering law regulating how low low-riding pants can go.

Officials in cities such as Atlanta are, well, cracking down men wearing on saggy pants with their waistbands below the hips and inches of boxer shorts exposed, the Chicago Tribune reported Wednesday. Females aren't exempt, either -- Atlanta's proposal could target pants cut low enough to reveal the strap of a thong.

"It would be a stupid law," Adrian Bustamante, 21, told the Tribune of the Atlanta proposal. "Our clothes are an expression of who we are."

In Delcambre, La., about 80 miles southwest of Baton Rouge, officials passed a ban with fines of up to $500 or six months in jail.

"It was getting to the point of why the hell wear pants? Forget about the pants and leave them at home," Delcambre Mayor Carol Broussard said. "If it's guidance these guys and girls need, hopefully we are helping them out by saying, 'We don't want to see your underwear, so pull your pants up.'"
