EVANSTON, Ill., Sept. 1 (UPI) -- Officials at Northwestern University have launched a new strategy to curb the unwanted practice of football fans relieving themselves on neighborhood lawns.

In preparation for Saturday’s season opener, Northwestern upped the number of portable toilets outside hallowed Ryan Field and at a high school parking lot where Wildcat fans congregate.

In addition, Evanston police supplied residents with phone numbers to report public urination, public intoxication and overall rowdiness. Public urination, by the way, carries a $75 fine -- and the excuse that “it was an emergency” likely won’t fly.

The Chicago Sun-Times said not many problems were anticipated at Saturday’s game against Northeastern, although things will likely pick up when Northwestern gets into the Big Ten schedule.
