CAPE GIRARDEAU, Mo., Aug. 29 (UPI) -- Rochelle Steffen said she can’t believe sellers on eBay stole her idea to raise money for animal shelters by selling dog-chewed Michael Vick trading cards.

Steffen began selling the cards of the suspended Atlanta Falcons quarterback that had been chewed by her dog, Monte, nearly two weeks ago. But she said some people appropriated the dog’s likeness without her permission for copycat auctions, with no mention what happens to the proceeds.

More than 100 people also wanted T-shirts of Monte with a Vick trading card in his mouth, the Cape Girardeau, Mo., artist said. Vick pleaded guilty to federal dogfighting charges and apologized for his conduct.

“This is all for the dogs, so I want them to get everything,” Steffen told the Southeast Missourian. The newspaper said eBay removed cards for violating rules on charity auctions.

The top bid for one bogus Monte-gwaned card was $1,500.

The top price for a card really munched by Monte, a 6-year-old Weimaraner, or Roxie, her Great Dane puppy, was $7,500.
