Campers tie peeping tom to tree

PORTLAND, Ore., Aug. 26 (UPI) -- A man camping in an Oregon national forest with his wife and some friends caught a peeping tom and tied him to a tree until police arrived.

Richard Berkey of Beaverton was arrested. Police then gave him a summons and released him, the Gresham Outlook said.

Jason Dugan of Outer East Portland discovered he and his wife had had a previous run-in with Berkey during a camping trip last year in the Mount Hood National Forest. They chased him away then -- but this time they decided that was not enough.

Dugan talked to Berkey while he was tied up, making sure he was reasonably comfortable and did not need medication. He also questioned him about his activities and asked him why he drove three hours to a National Forest.

"Look at you now, you're tied to a flippin' tree in the middle of the forest,” he said. “Was it really worth it? Do you think maybe you should stick to the strip club?"

Police said they found maps of several national forests in Berkey’s pickup and were trying to determine if he has done the same thing elsewhere.
