CLEARWATER, Fla., Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Fire officials in Clearwater, Fla., say a heroic cat that helped its owner escape a fire did not make it out of the burning mobile home alive.

Investigators said the cat woke its owner and brought attention to the flames making their way into the home after the fire erupted around 3 a.m. Monday at the Capri Mobile Home Park, the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times reported Monday.

Two homes were severely burned by the blaze and one other sustained lighter damage. There were no casualties reported other than the feline.

The American Red Cross was called in Monday to assist mobile home residents displaced by the fire.

The cause of the blaze is under investigation.
