LONDON, Aug. 19 (UPI) -- The BBC is drawing criticism for the public comments it posts to its Web site, it was reported Sunday.

Recent complaints have come from the Church of England and the Board of Deputies, a group representing Britain's Jews, The Sunday Mail reported.

The BBC this week removed a reference to Jesus as a "bastard" posted more than a week ago as part of the discussion of the death of the Archbishop of Paris, the British newspaper reported.

The BBC also has been criticized for posting anti-Semitic comments attacking the Talmud and portraying Jews as liars.

The BBC removes posts, a spokesman insisted, if they are considered likely to "provoke attack or offend others or are considered racist, homophobic, sexually explicit or otherwise objectionable."
