STOCKHOLM, Sweden, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- A Scottish man asked to go to jail after refusing to pay for a $20,000 restaurant bill that he racked up at Stockholm’s Cafe Opera.
"He admits everything. He said he wants to go to jail," said Stockholm police officer Lars-Erik Baarsen.
The man, 36, ate a dinner of scallops, entrecote and ice cream before ordering bottle upon bottle of expensive wine and racking up the bill, Sweden’s The Local reported Friday.
The most expensive bottle of wine on his bill cost $5,913.68.
"We are going to contact Interpol. He says that he’s committed similar offenses in Malmo and we intend checking whether that's true," police spokeswoman Sian Prendergast told The Local.
Cafe Opera director Jean Paul Bénèzeth described the Scotsman as "an odd customer" and explained how he racked up such an expensive meal.
"Well, it's the fact that our wine list includes some of the best wines in the world," he said to the newspaper.
