BOCA RATON, Fla., Aug. 11 (UPI) -- An 81-year-old Florida woman has received her college degree, 14 years after the high school dropout decided to go back to school.

Bathsheva Weinstein graduated Friday from Florida Atlantic University. She was the oldest woman in its summer class, The South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.

"I always dreamed of graduating college, and I did it -- just 60 years later," she said.

Weinstein was originally inspired by the story of Dave Thomas, founder of the Wendy’s restaurant chain. Thomas returned to high school late in life and received a GED.

Weinstein's husband, Melvin -- who had graduated from high school -- told her that if Thomas could do it, she could as well.

She got her GED in 1994 and an associate’s degree from Broward County College in 2000. Then it was on to Florida Atlantic, where she majored in history.

Weinstein grew up in Montreal. She said going to high school cost money so she went to work instead of finishing.
