Xcel spokesman Wes Reeves said employees investigating a blown fuse at a substation found a fried bull snake inside the fence of the facility, the Lubbock News-Avalanche reported Tuesday. Advertisement He said the reptile left about 1,588 residents powerless for about two and a half hours Sunday. "People don't always believe that (animals) cause outages, but they do," Reeves said. He said the problem is especially common in rural areas, with squirrels being the most notorious offenders.
