NEW YORK, Aug. 7 (UPI) -- New York taxi officials have threatened to seize an elderly cab driver's vintage 1982 Checker unless he takes it off duty for good.
Ray Kottner, 80, gave multiple free rides to passengers in his cab, but the Taxi and Limousine Commission slapped him with a citation for soliciting money from a passenger, the New York Post reported Tuesday.
Although Kottner paid the fine and retrieved his confiscated vehicle, the commission ruled yesterday that his cab driving days are through.
Kottner maintains that he did not solicit money but received a $10 tip on a free ride.
"I don't have the slightest idea what I am going to do now," Kottner said. "The fact of the matter is they are taking days out of my life -- I am 80 and a half, and I cannot afford to waste a day at the TLC."
