Bad plumbing sickens students

HIROSHIMA, Japan, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- About 80 students at a Japanese university had a rude surprise last month when a plumbing problem sent toilet water running out of the drinking taps.

The students at Hiroshima University's Higashi-Hiroshima Campus were stricken with vomiting and diarrhea after consuming water that had been originally used to flush toilets.

The Mainichi Daily News said Saturday that the problem was traced to some mixed up plumbing work in which the toilet pipes and the drinking-water lines at the campus gym were connected the wrong way around. What's puzzling is the fact the work was completed in 1993 with no apparent ill effects.
