DENVER, Aug. 4 (UPI) -- A Colorado man allegedly checked out hundreds of books and DVDs from Denver-area libraries using cards he obtained under different names.
Thomas Pilaar allegedly offered some of the items for sale on the on-line site Craigslist, the Rocky Mountain News reported. He was arrested on a parole violation, but police were investigating the alleged theft.
If it was theft, it was grand larceny. The Denver Public Library says Pilaar apparently obtained cards under seven names and checked out about 300 items on each card. The library estimates his total was worth about $35,000.
In Douglas County, librarians said they cut him off when he tried to check out 100 DVDs and books at once when he already had $11,000 worth of material at home.
Pilaar allegedly specialized in large and expensive coffee-table books.
