KENNESAW, Ga., July 31 (UPI) -- An 81-year-old man has earned his bachelor's degree from a Kennesaw, Ga., college -- 64 years after he dropped out of school to join the U.S. Navy.

Arthur Harris, co-founder of Spa Sydell, was awarded his diploma Monday at Kennesaw State University, where he is believed to be the oldest student to graduate from the school, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reported Tuesday.

Harris, an English major, was the recipient of two standing ovations at the ceremony when Kennesaw State University President Dan Papp asked all graduates older than 80 to stand up.

"I felt I had my own place, not out of place," Harris told the Journal-Constitution.

Harris took two or three classes a semester for three years as part of his return to education. However, he said he isn't done yet. He is returning to Kennesaw State University in the fall to earn his bachelor's of science in psychology, the Journal-Constitution said.
