NEW YORK, July 30 (UPI) -- A New York couple celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary won a special gift from the hotel where they spent their honeymoon -- a night at 1956 rates.
Sue and Bob Harris found their $21-a-night Waldorf-Astoria receipt, and when son-in-law Larry Ross contacted the hotel, management decided to help the pair celebrate their golden anniversary with a discount room, free dinner at in-house restaurant Peacock Alley and a bottle of champagne, the New York Post reported Monday.
Bob Harris said he got a good laugh out of seeing the price on the receipt.
"I'm a pack rat," he said. "I keep all sorts of stuff that my wife says, 'Throw out!'"
Now he says he is excited to return.
"I haven't been there since we were married," he said.
The hotel now charges more then $300 a night for rooms and up to $10,000 for a suite.
