Santa Cruz County Animal Services Authority supervising field ranger Todd Stosuy said the 88 animals -- thought to be one of the largest amount of animals found in a single home -- were discovered Tuesday after sheriff's deputies received a call asking them to check on the welfare of pets in the home, the San Jose (Calif.) Mercury News reported Friday. Advertisement "Imagine 83 cats living in a house with no litter boxes for two years and you get the general idea," Stosuy said. Animal Services officials said animal feces were piled as deep as 4 feet in some areas of the house. However, officials said the animals, which were taken to a shelter, were mostly healthy and well-fed, the newspaper said. Stosuy said the woman told him all of the cats were spayed or neutered. "She was very well-intentioned. These cats are not in poor, poor condition," Stosuy told the Mercury News.
